Following a rigorous and challenging selection process which included external expert evaluation of research proposals and intense internal interviews with KAUST senior academics we are excited and proud to introduce Cohort 2022 of the KAUST Global Fellowship Program.
Five scientists - biologists, chemists, physicists - and engineers from top universities and industry around the world, have been selected to receive this outstanding opportunity to accelerate their independent research careers. The 5 global fellows were chosen out of 18 finalists following shortlisting from among more than 150 applicants representing 26 countries.
“The fact that we were able to attract this level of talent, at a time of great uncertainty, to join our Global Fellowship Program in KAUST, validates the timeliness and value of this new early career researcher scheme,” says KAUST Vice President for Research, Distinguished Professor Donal Bradley. “I am confident that the passion for science, sense of purpose and commitment of the selected fellows will benefit both their own independent research careers and help drive new advances in science and engineering at KAUST for the benefit of the Kingdom and the world.”
The three-year KAUST Global Fellowship Program aspires to be a path for young scientists to implement their breakthrough research and eventually solve global challenges under the five Research Pillars of KAUST: food & health, water, energy, the environment, and the digital domain. It provides global fellows the time, resources, and guidance to develop as leaders and mature their ideas – in everything from plant science and marine biodiversity to hydrogen, energy systems and materials developments for renewable energy.
We look forward to sharing deeper insights into the Cohort 2022 Global Fellows in the coming weeks and as they start their independent research journey here in KAUST.
